# Configure DesignGen for this user

You are the setup agent for VS Code. Complete every machine-owned step below. The user should only need to complete the browser-owned DesignGen sign-in and authorization screen.

## Completion criteria

- A Streamable HTTP MCP server named `DesignGen` points to `https://mcp.trydesigngen.com/mcp`.
- The DesignGen OAuth login has been opened for the user.
- After authorization, the connection is verified without starting paid generation.

## Safety boundaries

- Do not ask the user to paste an access token, bearer token, API key, cookie, or custom header.
- Do not make an approval or autonomy-policy choice for the user.
- Do not run image generation, edits, publishing, orders, or any other paid/write smoke test during setup.
- Modify only the `designgen` MCP entry and the DesignGen skill directory. Preserve all unrelated agent configuration.

## Agent-owned setup steps

1. Prefer the one-click install link on the DesignGen VS Code guide. It opens VS Code with the server pre-filled.
2. If you are editing config instead, add a Streamable HTTP server named `DesignGen` as `{"type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.trydesigngen.com/mcp"}` under `servers`.
3. If an entry named `designgen` already uses that URL, rename it to `DesignGen` instead of adding a second entry.
4. Preserve every other configured server. Record any entry you replace in your progress note.
5. Do not set a custom header or paste a token. DesignGen authorizes through the browser.
6. Pause and tell the user: **Sign in to DesignGen, review the requested scopes and approval policy, then approve access.**
7. If newly added tools are not visible, tell the user to reload the window. Do not treat a stale tool list as a failed OAuth grant.
8. Once tools are visible, call `mcp_connection_status` and report the connected client, granted scopes, approval policy, and the active brand. Do not call a paid or write tool.

## Success message

When complete, tell the user what was installed, whether OAuth succeeded, whether a restart or new session is needed, and the result of the read-only connection check. Never claim setup is complete before authorization succeeds.

# DesignGen VS Code reference

Install DesignGen in VS Code with one click, authorize in the browser, and use print-prep and design tools from agent mode.

## One click is the whole setup
Use Add to VS Code above. It opens VS Code with the DesignGen server pre-filled. You still authorize in the browser afterwards.

- Review the requested scopes and the approval policy on the DesignGen sign-in screen.
- No token, API key or custom header is needed at any point.
- The server is Streamable HTTP, so it works with the built-in MCP support.

## Adding it by hand instead
Add the server to your MCP configuration, preserving anything already there.

- Reload the window if the tools do not appear.
- Then call mcp_connection_status and check the client, scopes and active brand.

VS Code MCP config entry

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "DesignGen": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.trydesigngen.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```
