Before you start

Custom MCP connectors require a paid ChatGPT plan and are added from the web app. Once added, the connector is available in the desktop and mobile apps signed in to the same account. DesignGen exposes the search and fetch tools ChatGPT requires, so no developer mode is needed.

  • Custom connectors are available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans.
  • Add the connector from chatgpt.com. It then appears everywhere you are signed in.
  • Business and Enterprise workspaces add connectors through workspace admin settings instead.

Add the connector

Point ChatGPT at the DesignGen connector URL and complete the DesignGen sign-in.

  • Open Settings, then Apps and Connectors, then Advanced settings.
  • Choose to add a custom connector and paste the DesignGen connector URL below.
  • ChatGPT scans the available tools, then prompts you to sign in to DesignGen.
  • Review the requested scopes and approve. Never paste an access token into a chat.

Codex

Codex connects to the same server from the command line.

  • Run codex mcp get designgen --json to confirm the server is registered.

Check that it is working

Ask for something ordinary and see whether ChatGPT reaches for DesignGen without being told to.

  • Ask "what is my DesignGen active brand?" — it should answer from your account.
  • Ask for a design. The generated image should appear in the conversation.
  • If the connector is not offered in a chat, enable it from the connector picker in the composer.
